Top still-life painters on view
DENVER * Collectors and lovers of still-life paintings can partake in a visual feast when they attend a show of new works by prominent artists at Gallery 1261 this month. Painters such as Robert C. Jackson and Scott Fraser bring a bold sense of color and wit to their canvases, while others, such as Daniel Sprick, evoke a timeless elegance in their works. George Fisher, Mike Glass, Janet Monafo, and Charles Pfahl are also among the participating painters. Meet the artists at a reception from 5 to 9 p.m. on October 15. ZlON NATIONAL PARK - The second annual In the Footsteps of Thomas Moran Plein Air Invitational takes place November 1-7 in this scenic national park. More than 20 nationally recognized painters gather to paint on location in the park where renowned painter Thomas Moran also once set up his easel. A Quick Draw is scheduled for November 5 at noon on the lawn in front of Zion Park Lodge. A wet-paint sale takes place November 6-7 at the Zion National Park Nature Center. SALT LAKE CITY * Home Fine Art presents a show of new paintings by Karen Horne this month. Home is known as a colorist with a penchant for depicting scenes of big-city life. She focuses her creative eye on locales such as San Francisco, London, and Paris as well as those closer to home, like downtown Salt Lake City. Capturing the energy, light, and romance of the urban environment at night is another artistic passion. Home's work is held in private and public collections across the country, including the Springville Museum of Art, Springville, UT, and the American Express Corporation.
